Philly sports fans flock to Nut Hut Saloon for big games, everyday bites

Date:

With the City of Brotherly Love hosting the MLB All-Star Game next year, there’s one place in town that will definitely be caught up in the buzz.

With its Kelly Green door, Philadelphia Phillies retro maroon walls, and Philly mascots-themed bathrooms, sports fever runs high at The Nut Hut Saloon.

Fishtown’s only sports bar is a popular spot, in season or not, with people frequenting the dive bar since January 2024.

Owned by Kenneth Landis, owner of Chick’s Deli; Benjamin Albacete, former chef for the Jose Garces group; Marc Mattera, the former owner of Club Recess; and a silent partner, the group chose the location because a friend showed them the corner lot in an up-and-coming area, Landis explained.

Much more than a hangout for Phillies, Eagles, Sixers and Flyers fans, Nut Hut offers Happy Hour, brunch on the weekends, Industry Night on Mondays, Open Mic Night on Mondays, Quizzo trivia on Wednesdays, and karaoke on Fridays and Saturdays.

Aside from their events calendar, their menu is packed, too. Burgers include a basic – of course – but you can get creative with mushroom or cauliflower burgers, too. Cheesesteaks come as classic, topped with mushrooms or peppers, or try buffalo chicken for a fiery twist.

“Our wings are the best,” Landis offered, made with either chicken or cauliflower, and can be topped with buffalo, sweet Thai chili, BBQ, garlic parm, or salt and pepper sauces.

Handhelds include hot honey fried chicken, beer-battered cod filet, meatball parm, and even vegan hot dogs.

A good sandwich needs something on the side. Order mozzarella sticks, loaded French fries, loaded nachos, mac & cheese, or their famous Nut Hut Nuts.

The bar has weekly chef specials, seasonal special cocktails, and lots of beer options.

“We are a local corner bar with a friendly and welcoming vibe,” Landis said.

The bar has 45 seats and can be rented out or accommodate large parties – birthday, bachelor or bachelorette.

And to give back to the community, Nut Hut donates to charities, especially on Quizzo nights; and raises funds for school supplies as well as the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

The Nut Hut Saloon is located at 1873 Frankford Ave. in Philadelphia. For more information, visit thenuthutsaloonphilly.com, or on Instagram @thenuthutsaloonphilly.
