Hello 08108! Fall season is here and I am ready! I love the colors of fall and the feel of cooler weather. Oh and who is ready for everything pumpkin – picking, spice latte, pie?! We are excited for you to check out our Fall edition magazine dedicated to the lifestyle and com- munity of Collingswood.
We start our issue pounding the pave- ment with resident Rashaad Jorden. On average, he runs 50 to 70 miles, six days a week around Cooper Park and Haddon- field. He is coming off his best marathon time yet: two hours, 54 minutes and 31 sec- onds, which he ran at the Boston marathon in April. With seven marathons under his belt, he is not done yet. Jorden’s next chal- lenges will be the Philadelphia marathon in November and the 130th Boston marathon on April 20 of next year. Catch him if you can on page 5.
Next, we meet Daniela Solano-Ward. Her journey into local politics was uncon- ventional – to say the least. In May, she be came the first female and first Latina mayor of Collingswood. We caught up with Sola- no-Ward along her journey as she discusses growing up in Virginia, her Colombian roots and how her family settled in the bor- ough. “It doesn’t matter where you’re from or who you know,” she insists. “All of a sudden, you get folded in and feel accepted. I think Collingswood is really strong in that way.” Meet Solano-Ward on page 14.
Be sure to check out our expert contribu- tor articles: “Good Design is More Than Just Good Looks” on page 10 and “The house no one wanted” on page 18. Look through the wonderful photos of Pocket Park’s grand opening on page 14. Also thumb through Keeping up with Colling- swood for future community events on page 22 and find out what our neighbors have to say – “What’s Your Favorite Hidden Gem Spot Around Town” on page 2. All of this and more awaits on the pages ahead!
Enjoy!
