Hello Fishtown! I am excited for you to check out our second edition of The Hook dedicated to the life- style and community of Fishtown.

We start our issue with Songs from the Ocean. At the entrance way of Alexander Adaire School is a mural that brightens the learning space with marine life. Fish, octopi and water plants cover every inch of it. “Ocean Songs” was created by Benjamin Volta with the help of students and teachers at Alexander Adaire in Fishtown. As Dory’s song goes, “Just keep swimming” on page 6.

Next we visit Urban Exchange Project where trendy back-to-school items can be found that are “diverse and functional.” The family-owned and operated clothing retailer has been a mainstay since 2016 and offers a large selection of upcycled, sustainable fashions, vintage pieces and second-hand clothing at affordable prices. Co-owner Jenna Gorman takes us inside on page 10.

We round our issue with school on the brain as we meet Renee Harris, who started STEM Prep Academy, to provide young students with the kind of hands-on, career- based learning she never had. She saw first hand how early exposure to the curriculum – or the lack of it – can shape a child’s con- fidence and future. Come learn on page 16.

Also check out “Fishtown Through the Realtor’s Lens” by Derek Fulforth, your neighbor and real-state expert contributor, on page 12, The Catch on page 21 for fu- ture community events and hear what your neighbors have to say on their favorite pizza toppings on page 2. All of this and more awaits on the pages ahead!

Enjoy!
