Like a Good Neighbor, Vince Ovecka Is There

Celebrating 25 Years of State Farm in Fishtown

Expect the unexpected.

Anything can happen.

Wise words for life – and insurance.

“We’ve helped so many families recover when they’ve lost their cars, homes and even loved ones,” said Vince Ovecka, owner of Vince Ovecka State Farm.

No stranger to the insurance game, Ovecka started working for a State Farm agency in 1995 while attending Temple University before eventually opening up his own agency in March 2001.

Thanks to former local State Farm agent Jim McShea – who announced his retirement right when Ovecka was searching for his next opportunity – Ovecka got hired to replace him, and moved from a small office located on Aramingo Avenue near Cione Playground to his current, larger space off the corner of Girard Avenue and Palmer Street across from Tommy’s Pizza.

“It’s rewarding when customers come to us for help and we’re able to put together a plan to give them the peace of mind needed that they’ll be OK financially if tragedy strikes,” said Ovecka.

With a 5-star rating and more than 350 reviews on Google, positive testimonials abound, often praising individual team members.

“The Vince Ovecka team (special shout out to Becky Cromer!) is not only incredibly responsive, they always take the time to educate us on all available options by breaking down complex policy jargon into simple terms so we can make informed decisions,” Dawn Osti wrote on May 15, 2026.

“Best of all, they managed to find us better coverage while saving us money on multiple lines of coverage. If you want an honest, knowledgeable, and fast-working professional team, I highly recommend their services!”

With a team of eight employees who dedicate themselves to offering outstanding personalized service (even in Spanish if that’s what you need), Ovecka specializes in auto, home, renters, life and business insurance, and he’s also a licensed agent who can offer financial services.

“When you call our office, you get a live person who is willing and able to help,” Ovecka said. “We take the time to analyze customers’ situations and help them realize needs they may not have known existed and offer reasonable solutions to address them.”

But one thing Ovecka says his team isn’t? Pushy.

“We consider ourselves educators and problem solvers, not as salespeople only interested in earning commissions,” Ovecka said.

Getting to have a “profound impact” on the lives of his customers when the unexpected happens, and when they need both financial assistance and guidance, is Ovecka’s favorite part of running the business.

Ovecka has qualified for many distinguished awards at State Farm but doesn’t display them – it’s clear that accolades are not what motivates his team.

Ovecka is proud to have started a business in Fishtown over 25 years ago when he remarks that Fishtown wasn’t considered one of the most “desirable” neighborhoods.

“It has always been a great neighborhood and I believed it had a great deal of potential,” Ovecka said. “I’m super grateful for our customers since they’re the reason we’ve been able to help so many families in our community.”

And that’s what makes Vince Ovecka State Farm different.

Born and raised in Port Richmond, Ovecka understands the urban market, and has decades of helping people insure their cars and homes, especially in a place where property values have risen quite a bit over the years, under his belt.

Ovecka said that staying close to home and his local customers results in servicing them better, but he also enjoys being part of the community.

When it comes to Fishtown organizations, Ovecka is proud to be a sponsor of the Morris Animal Refuge, Palmer Cemetery, Stokely Playground and Storm the Heavens, as well as several local schools.

Since any job – especially one that literally has lives on the line – can lead to burnout, Ovecka makes it a point to step away from his business when needed to destress by exercising, golfing, visiting the beach and exploring local restaurants with family and friends.

“Society and the insurance industry have changed so much that it’s very easy to get caught up in a trap of constant work, especially with how easy it is to work from home as well,” Ovecka said.

But even with that work-life balance prioritized, Ovecka plans on continuing to grow the business and maybe even open a second location – but it “needs to be the right fit,” Ovecka said.
