Hello Fishtown! I am excited for you to check out our monthly edition magazine TheHook dedicated to the lifestyle and community of Fishtown.

We start our issue at 200 Poplar Street in North Philadelphia where the K-Town Lab Murals live on in a neighborhood memory. What had once been a quiet, weathered stretch of brick in the summer of 2018 became a temporary portal into the imaginations of artists Simon Vasquez and Juanjo Suarce. Follow the memory on page 5.

Next, we head to the Lutheran Settlement House on Frankford Avenue where every corner you turn – every inch – serves a purpose. Lutheran Settlement House was founded in 1902 as part of the Settlement House Movement, an Industrial Revolution-era movement with the goal of bringing people from all socio-economic backgrounds together both physically and socially, according to its website. The settlement house was, and still is, a multi-service organization. Find out more on page 10.

We round out our issue with cancer survivor Holly Heenan, who followed her thrift dream at Another Chance Consignment, which she opened in October of 2024. “My dream has always been to open a consignment shop,” she remembers. “However, I understood how hard operating a small business – let alone a retail shop – can be, so I chose an accounting career that is basically income safe.” But a cancer diagnosis that turned to infection and required a short-term disability leave from her decades-long career convinced her to take that risk. Take a chance on page 13.

Also find out “What to Expect During the Fall Market in Fishtown” from our expert contributor on page 16. Follow The Catch on page 22 for future community events and hear what your neighbors have to say on what is their wing of choice – drums or flats? on page 2. All of this and more awaits on the pages ahead!

Enjoy!
