David Wible of Wible’s Tree Service has been passionate about trees and shrubs since he was a teenager, when he spent weekends learning the ropes from an arborist in Glassboro.

Today, a man who loves trees, animals, and people is celebrating over 30 years in business, providing Pitman residents with care, protection, and management of their trees.

Arboriculture, the study of how trees grow and respond to cultural practices and to their environment, is both an art and a science, and earning the arborist job title is more than just “nice to have” on your resume, Wible says it’s key to being successful.

He received formal training for his craft at the ACRT Institute of Urban Forestry and Arboriculture and believes that proper education about the trees he works with is essential, along with staying up to date on industry standards and latest techniques in the arbor world.

“Knowing trees, shrubs and the particular needs and ways of pruning is a must,” Wible said. “There’s also knowledge of diseases that could affect trees and knowing the signs of decay and stress.”

Though incredibly rewarding, the work is challenging and often dangerous, as one would gather when you’re “working with all types of trees in all types of situations and locations.”

Pennsylvania Arborist Tomlinson Bomberger described the risks in his story, “A Day in the Life of an Arborist.”

“When you’ve got someone 50 feet in the air in a bucket or tied into a tree with a harness, that’s dangerous enough,” Bomberger wrote. “Now add a chainsaw.”

Being EHAP (Electoral Hazard Awareness Prevention) certified allows Wible to work around danger, including high voltage wires.

“If you don’t have that specific training, you shouldn’t attempt it,” warned Wible. Even the New Jersey Board of Tree Experts emphasizes on their website, “Homeowners: Don’t get hurt – leave tree work to the professionals!”

Speaking of professionals, Wible and his crew have even used their skills and resources to rescue animals from trees, including his own kitten, Percy.

“I’ve done rescues in rain and wind and fairly high up,” he shared. “Even birds’ nests and baby squirrels have been carefully relocated as not to disturb their habitat.”

Neighbors have been quite welcoming of Wible’s tree service on Nextdoor, an app for discussing what’s good in your neighborhood, voting the business a “Neighborhood Fave” two years in a row in 2023 and 2024 for “Best Gardening and Landscaping.”

The team also relies on word-of-mouth recommendations, and for those who aren’t social media savvy, the business has an ad in the Yellow Pages.

Wible is humbled and grateful for reviews like this, “David is one of the nicest guys you could meet, and his workers are very professional. Highly recommend.”

At the end of day, Wible feels satisfaction in a job well-done and enjoys sharing his knowledge and experience with others. Wible’s namesake company, founded in 1994, continues to pride itself on exceptional work every day.

“No job is too small, and every job is as unique as the homeowners,” Wible said. “I have a great team, and we all love what we do.”
